Nancy close yale child study center12/31/2023 ![]() ![]() Nancy Close, PhD, is an Assistant Professor at the Yale Child Study Center Associate Director of the Yale Program in Early Childhood Education Lecturer in Psychology and the Clinical Director of the MOMS Partnership® and the Yale Parent and Family Development Program. But mostly when it comes to developmentally appropriate regression, I think it is short lived.” “Children are so motivated to move forward in development, so if that motivation is not there then I would be worried. If it seems to be lasting longer than you think it should, around two to three weeks, Close recommends reaching out to your child’s healthcare provider. Usually, if you can pinpoint what might be going on and provide children with support, they will be able to work through it. Some regressions can last for a few weeks, but it varies from child to child. Next time maybe you can ask for a turn and get your teacher to help you.” For example: “You were so mad your friend did not give you the toy and then you pushed her. Help them find adaptive and age-appropriate ways of expressing some of those more difficult feelings.” Sit with them, help soothe and calm them and reflect on what they are feeling. “Learning that they’re not the boss of the world is a big thing for toddlers! It causes a lot of tantrums,” says Close. It’s important to be reassuring, but also to have expectations and to set limits. Sometimes your child may need to be regressed for a while. By observing your child while they play and playing with them, you can learn a lot about what is going on with your child. ![]() Socially and emotionally, it gives them a way to express some things they’re struggling with that they don’t necessarily have the words for,” says Close. “Imaginative play and symbolic play are vehicles which children use to develop their language, thinking and ideas about the world. Play can also be a helpful tool for working through difficult feelings. Sometimes you feel like you need my help.” ![]() Close suggests trying the following: “You are learning to do so many big boy things. Try to show them that you notice the regressive Behaviour without shaming them. Let them know that they are safe and supported. How can parents help support their children through regressions? Usually parents get to know your child’s patterns of moving forward and then needing to move backward a little bit.” Regression is also very common when children are adjusting to new situations, like becoming an older sibling or going to pre-school for the first time. “I think children vary in terms of what causes them to regress and the regressive patterns they seem to exhibit. “I see some children who may regress right before they’re about to make a big leap forward, or they regress right after they’ve made a leap forward,” says Close. In fact, it is to be expected and it’s very helpful to further development – think of it as your child’s way of preparing themselves for taking on more responsibility. A baby may be a bit clingier, need to feed more, be a bit whinier or cry more often than usual. If there is regression in an infant it might not necessarily be as evident. You will typically see regressive behaviours in toddlers and preschoolers, but it can really happen at any age – even with infants and older children. “All of a sudden, your child cannot do what they could do before,” explains Close. If a child has achieved something like getting dressed by herself, you may see a loss of some of those skills. You may see more temper tantrums, difficulty with sleeping or eating or reverting to more immature ways of talking. Regression can vary, but in general, it is acting in a younger or needier way. “So, when those stumbling blocks come along the progressive path of development, it can feel really overwhelming and cause some kind of regression in children,” explains Close. For example, a baby learning to walk may be delighted by the new skill she has mastered, but may also realize that mom and dad are now further away or that she could fall down. However, along with the excitement of being able to do new things comes stress. There is a natural energy in children to explore, manipulate and master their world.” ![]() “Most children have a very strong urge to move forward in their development (progression). “I like to pair regression with the idea of progression,” says Close. We spoke to Nancy Close, PhD, an Assistant Professor at the Child Study Center at the Yale School of Medicine and Associate Director of the Yale Program in Early Childhood Education, about what causes regression to happen and how you can help your child through it. Regression is common in growing children – especially toddlers. If you have noticed that your child has taken a giant leap forward (like finally mastering toilet training!) only to then take a step back (refusing to use the toilet!), you are not alone. ![]()

Insert window vs full frame12/31/2023 ![]() ![]() It is “Z” shaped and it has a large exterior flange that is designed to fit over the existing aluminum window’s perimeter frame that it is going over the top of. The zbar flange comes from the shape of the window. Zbar’s or Replacement windows are made by most manufacturers of vinyl or fiberglass windows. The interior of the windows shipped from the factory with a primed interior for finish painting in the field. By installing a Marvin Clad Ultimate Insert Double Hung into this particular opening the owner got a exterior to satisfy historical requirements in the downtown historic district and a maintenance free exterior. The original window frame were in excellent shape but the original wood sashes were completely rotted and the glass was falling out. The Marvin insert worked well in this application since the existing building is a brick facade. ![]() The aluminum clad exterior was chosen to match the original green exterior of the windows. The Tilt Pac is comprised of a new set of vinyl jamb liners with balance hardware and two new double pane aluminum clad exterior, wood interior sashes. Interior Photo of Marvin Clad Tilt Pac Window Installed by Old Town Glass in Petaluma, CA In the event the existing frame is damaged or rotted a new nail on installation should be considered. The existing frame should not have it’s installation compromised in any way. The existing frame section must be in good shape to make sure that the new window can be properly fitted and installed into the opening. One critical element for block frame replacement is the condition of the existing wood jambs and sill. Older homes including Victorians, Bungalows, and wood windows with masonry surrounds are usually candidates for block frame window replacement. The normal frame thickness on a insert window for a block frame is a jamb depth of 3 1/4″. Marvin New Construction or Nail On Window Photo Taken During InstallationĪ Block Frame window replacement is normally where the original wood perimeter frame is left in place and a new window comprised of either new jambliners and sashes or a complete frame unit with a jamb are installed. Most window and door manufacturers offer a solution to answer all type of installation but some of the higher end products (wood clad windows) cannot be installed using the Zbar or replacement flange method due to the waterproofing and jamb details for wood windows. Not all types of replacement window installations will fit every project. While the previously listed types of replacements all yield the result of a new window, there are some distinct differences that are important for owner’s to understand. These include Block Frame, Z Bar(or Replacement Flange), and New Construction (or Nail on Flange). There are a couple of window replacement methods common to the industry. I have tried to summarize the different methods for replacing a window along with common terminology. In certain situations there maybe more than one option available. When our estimators or installers look at a project, we are able to tell a customer the best window replacement method or methods based on their situation. Which Window Replacement is Right For My Project? It Depends. ![]()

Anyways, he sent me an update explaining that he reinstalled one drive for business, that the problem was temporarily gone, then came back again. I’ve been having odd problems with my mac today and I think it’s I do not have access to the computer having the issue. I have checked it for another folder, and the result is the same.Note: This is not my computer. So it is taking up twice as much space on the disk. Is OneDrive keeping duplicate copies of the same folder in both Workspace and Macintosh volumes? Or is this how the used space is calculated, considering the local OneDrive files/folders to be tagged with both volumes? But the surprising thing is that the available space in the container (shared between the volumes) is decreased by 2.9 GB. Now, after this, the Workspace volume shows an increase of 1.45 GB in used space, and the Macintosh volume too shows an increase of 1.45 GB in used space. I opted to keep a folder available on the device. I tried to check this and observed something very surprising. Now when I opt for the "Always keep on This Device" option for a file or folder in my OneDrive, where (the original version) will it get stored? In the "Workspace" volume or in the Macintosh HD volume? When I searched for the original folder, it was found in the "users" directory in the Macintosh HD volume. Now the OneDrive folder in the "Workspace" volume shows a sign indicating it is an alias. I have created a volume "Workspace" for keeping my work-related files and chose that "Workspace" volume for my OneDrive folder. A box jellyfish12/31/2023 ![]() ![]() Breeding interval Box jellyfish breed once a year.( Hamner, 1994 Hamner, 1995 Hartwick, 1991 Seymour and Sutherland, 2001 Tibballs, 2006) Once the polyp has finished budding, it develops into a juvenile medusa, which grows into a sexually mature medusa. Once fertilization occurs, planula attach to a hard surface and develop into a small polyp, which may asexually reproduce via budding. Mature box jellyfish release sperm or eggs into the water. ( Hamner, 1994 Seymour, et al., 2004)Įvery spring, box jellyfish gather to spawn in rivers and similar bodies of water. Shortly after spawning, box jellyfish die. Here, jellyfish release their sperm and eggs directly into the water. ( Hamner, 1994 Hamner, 1995 Hartwick, 1991 Seymour and Sutherland, 2001)īox jellyfish find mates by swimming to freshwater rivers during the spring. Once in the sea, a maturing box jellyfish continues to grow until it reaches its full size of 16 to 24 cm. After a polyp has metamorphosed into a small medusa, it travels from freshwater rivers to the sea. A polyp can reproduce asexually via budding. Polyps rely on schools of plankton for food. Polyps usually attach themselves to a surface where they are not exposed, often on the underside or a crevice of the hard surface. Polyps use their two tentacles to attach to a hard surface, such as a stone or the shell of other animals. Planulae soon develop into polyps, which are sessile and small (1 to 2 mm) and look like a living ball with two tentacles. ( Carrette, et al., 2002 Currie and Jacups, 2005 Hamner, 1995 Seymour, et al., 2004 Tibballs, 2006)Īfter the reproduction of sexually mature medusa, box jellyfish develop planulae, cells grouped together after fertilization. Box jellyfish contain sensory organs including 24 eyes, but they do not have a brain. Each tentacle contains millions of nematocysts, which are microscopic hooks where venom is held and delivered. Each of the tentacles has a slight blue-gray tint and can grow up 3 m in length. There can be as many as 15 tentacles hanging from each of the four pedalia for a total of up to 60 tentacles per jellyfish. The tentacles of box jellyfish dangle from pedalia, the corners of the bell. ![]() The bell is transparent and is usually between 16 and 24 cm, though some reach a diameter of 35 cm. The name box jellyfish is derived from the shape of their bell, which is box-shaped when healthy. ( Currie and Jacups, 2005 Hamner, 1995 Tibballs, 2006) Once young jellyfish mature into medusa, they follow the river out to sea. Box jellyfish also inhabit shallow rivers during the reproductive season and during their polyp stage. During heavy storms, they move into deeper waters where the water is calm to avoid damage. They are mainly found in the ocean but are also found inland in freshwater rivers and mangrove channels when spawning. ( Hamner, 1994 Hamner, 1995 Tibballs, 2006)īox jellyfish tend to inhabit shallow, murky saline waters near Australia. Box jellyfish may also be responsible for stings near the Philippines. Humans are frequently stung by this species in the oceanic waters of Queensland, on Australia's eastern coast. Box jellyfish have been found in the waters on the western coast of Australia in the Exmouth Gulf to Gladstone in the northern waters of Australia. They inhabit parts of the Indian Ocean, Pacific Ocean, and the Great Barrier Reef. Chironex fleckeri, also known as box jellyfish, lives in and around the waters of Australia and Southeast Asia. ![]()

We introduced some new commands above: head, which limits output to the first n lines and then truncates it. Instead, we can use grep to return only the lines we really want. Or, you might instead redirect it to a file to be opened with a text editor: netstat -anp > netstat.txt.īut there's a better option. You could just pipe all that output to a pager, so you can read it one page at a time, with netstat -anp | less. Unfortunately, this produces a lot of output-frequently, several tens of pages. Typically, we'd invoke netstat using the -anp arguments-for all sockets, numeric display, and displaying the owning pid of each socket. Many utilities can accomplish this goal netstat is one of the older and better-known options. Advertisementįor example, let's say you're interested in finding which ports the apache web server has open on your system. In that vein, grep is the tool you use to find lines that contain a particular string of text. When first learning about tools like grep, I find it helps to think of them as far simpler than they truly are. They make it possible to treat individual, simple utilities as part of a greater whole.Īnd that last concept-breaking one complex task into several simpler tasks-is equally necessary to learning to think in complex command-line invocations in the first place! Process the command on the right after you're done processing the command on the left. ![]() Again, we're going to keep this very simple: Operator Redirection 101īefore we can talk about sed, awk, and grep, we need to talk about something a bit more basic-command-line redirection. Instead of giving you encyclopedic listings of every possible argument and use case for each of these ubiquitous commands, we're going to teach you how to think about them-and how to easily, productively incorporate them in your own daily command-line use. If you find yourself in the same boat, grab a beverage and buckle in. For example, the sed man page weighs in at around 1,800 words alone without ever really explaining how regular expressions work or the most common uses of sed itself. Trying to read the man pages for the utilities most frequently seen in these extended command chains didn't make them seem more approachable, either. Surely, this was just an exercise in e-braggadocio, right?
